What to Expect During Your First KAP Session

If you're curious about the Kundalini Activation Process (KAP) but have never experienced a session, it's completely natural to wonder what will happen, what you'll feel, and whether there's anything you need to do to prepare.

The good news is that your first KAP session doesn't require previous experience with meditation, yoga, breathwork, or energy practices. There's no complicated technique to learn and no particular outcome you're expected to achieve.

Your role is surprisingly simple: get comfortable, relax, remain open, and allow your experience to unfold.

At Healing by Hart, Dr. Noushin Hart offers both in-person and online KAP sessions, providing an opportunity to explore the practice in the setting that feels right for you.

What Is the Kundalini Activation Process?

The Kundalini Activation Process (KAP) is an experiential practice centered on the transmission of life-force energy.

Unlike practices in which you actively use breathing techniques, physical postures, chanting, visualization, or meditation to create a particular state, KAP emphasizes receiving rather than doing.

During a session, you'll typically lie comfortably on a yoga mat while music plays. Rather than trying to make something happen, you're encouraged to relax and observe whatever arises.

For some participants, the experience can feel powerful and expressive. For others, it can be subtle and quiet.

There is no "right" way to experience KAP.

Before Your First KAP Session

You don't need to do anything elaborate to prepare.

The primary goal is simply to arrive feeling comfortable and ready to be present with the experience.

Wear Comfortable Clothing

Choose loose, comfortable clothing that allows you to lie down and move freely.

Yoga clothes, leggings, sweatpants, a comfortable shirt, or similar clothing usually works well.

Consider avoiding:

  • Restrictive clothing
  • Stiff jeans
  • Tight waistbands
  • Bulky jewelry
  • Large watches or accessories
  • Anything that may become uncomfortable while lying down

You don't need special KAP clothing or equipment.

Give Yourself Time to Arrive

For an in-person session, arriving a little early can give you time to settle into the space rather than feeling rushed.

If you're participating online, prepare your space beforehand so you can join without distractions.

Come With an Open Mind

Perhaps the most useful preparation is to avoid deciding beforehand what your KAP session is supposed to feel like.

You may have seen videos of people moving during KAP or heard someone describe an emotional or energetic experience.

That doesn't mean your experience will—or should—look the same.

Your first session belongs to you.

What Happens During a KAP Session?

While every KAP experience is different, the session itself is refreshingly straightforward.

1. You'll Get Comfortable

You'll typically begin by lying comfortably on a yoga mat.

Dr. Hart will help create an environment where you can settle in, relax, and understand what to expect.

There is nothing you need to perform or accomplish.

2. Music Becomes Part of the Experience

Music accompanies the KAP session and helps create the setting for the experience.

As the session progresses, you're encouraged to remain relaxed and receptive rather than consciously trying to direct what happens.

3. Dr. Hart Facilitates the KAP Experience

During the session, Dr. Hart moves through the space and facilitates the KAP process.

Depending on the format of the session, facilitation may involve working in proximity to participants and, when appropriate and with consent, light touch at specific points.

For online KAP, Dr. Hart facilitates the experience remotely while you participate from your own comfortable, private space.

4. You Allow Your Experience to Unfold

This is perhaps the most important part:

You don't have to make anything happen.

Instead, notice what you experience without judging it or comparing it to what someone else is experiencing.

What Might I Feel During My First KAP Session?

This is one of the most common questions people have before trying KAP.

And the most accurate answer is:

It varies.

Participants may describe experiences such as:

  • Deep relaxation or stillness
  • Warmth or coolness
  • Tingling or other physical sensations
  • Spontaneous movement
  • Emotional expression
  • Laughter or tears
  • Changes in body awareness
  • Mental imagery
  • Personal insights
  • Feelings of connection
  • A quiet or meditative state

You may experience several of these.

You may experience something completely different.

Or your first session may feel surprisingly subtle.

All of those experiences are valid.

What If Nothing Dramatic Happens?

That's perfectly okay.

One misconception about KAP can come from watching dramatic experiences on social media. Someone else's visible movement or emotional response can create the impression that something similar needs to happen to you.

It doesn't.

A quiet experience isn't an unsuccessful experience.

Your session might involve stillness, relaxation, subtle sensations, thoughts, emotions, or simply greater awareness of what's happening within you.

Try not to evaluate the experience while you're having it.

Instead of asking:

"Is this working?"

consider simply noticing:

"What am I experiencing right now?"

That subtle change in mindset can help remove the pressure to perform.

Will My Body Move During KAP?

It might.

Some participants describe spontaneous physical movement during a KAP experience, while others remain relatively still.

If movement arises naturally, you don't need to consciously exaggerate or reproduce it. Likewise, you don't need to suppress normal, comfortable movement simply because you weren't expecting it.

The important thing is not to compare yourself with the person next to you.

KAP isn't a performance.

Your experience does not need to look like anyone else's.

Can KAP Bring Up Emotions?

Some participants report experiencing emotions during a session.

That might mean laughter, tears, a sense of calm, unexpected memories, or simply becoming more aware of how you're feeling.

Other participants don't experience a significant emotional response at all.

Again, there isn't a particular emotional experience you need to have.

Dr. Hart's role is to create a supportive environment in which you can approach the experience with curiosity rather than expectation.

What Happens After the Session?

Once the active portion of the session ends, you'll have an opportunity to settle and transition out of the experience.

You may want a few quiet moments before immediately returning to your normal routine.

Some people enjoy reflecting on what they experienced. Others prefer not to analyze it immediately.

You might consider:

  • Drinking water
  • Taking a few quiet minutes
  • Journaling about your experience
  • Going for a gentle walk
  • Reflecting on any thoughts or insights that arose
  • Simply continuing your day and seeing how you feel

There is no required post-KAP ritual.

Give yourself permission to process the experience in whatever way feels natural to you.

What About My Second KAP Session?

Don't expect it to be identical to your first.

One of the interesting aspects of KAP is that experiences can vary from session to session.

A first experience might be quiet while another feels more expressive—or vice versa.

That's another reason Dr. Hart encourages participants to approach each experience without trying to recreate something that happened previously.

Each session is its own experience.

What If I'm Nervous About My First KAP Session?

Being a little uncertain before trying something new is understandable.

Remember that you don't need to understand every aspect of KAP before participating.

You don't have to:

  • Know how to meditate
  • Practice yoga
  • Understand energy work
  • Be particularly spiritual
  • Know what Kundalini is supposed to feel like
  • Make your body move
  • Have an emotional release
  • Achieve a particular state

You simply need to arrive and experience the session for yourself.
